Breaking the Cycle

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela

Science and innovation form the bedrock of a peaceful and prosperous society. Often, developing societies face a deficit in science literacy, which arguably hinders their economic and social progress. A society with low science literacy tends to underinvest in scientific endeavors, perpetuating a cycle of ignorance and underdevelopment. PRI's core mission is to break this cycle by fostering science literacy through public engagement, citizen science initiatives, policy advocacy, and global partnerships.

Our Programs

Engagement with school-children, university-students and citizens

In collaboration with Nepal Optica Local Section and Engage Nepal With Science, we organize a series of quarterly public engagement activities for students and citizens.

  • Internship opportunities: for bachelors and masters students
  • Optics in daily life: engaging activities focused on the practical applications of optics
  • Stargazing nights: opportunities for public observation of celestial bodies
  • Thesis Research opportunities for university students
  • PRI Open Day: an open house event for everyone!

Citizen Science

Empowering citizens to "Know your water" through workshops, enabling them to test their own water samples and gain knowledge about water-borne diseases.

Policy Advocacy

PRI contributed significantly to the creation of Nepal's National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy 2018. This included developing its implementation plan as a committee member appointed by the Government of Nepal's Ministry of Science and Technology.
